We will learn how to connect TRIG-MP3 voice playback module and use it.

Understanding the TRIG-MP3 voice playback module

You can not use speaker and headphones jack the same time. If you insert headphones into the headphones jack when the speaker connected and plays the music then the speaker stops playing the music and music will be in headphones only.

Speaker pins must be connected to an amplifier board first then to the speaker.

There are several modes for the TRIG-MP3 voice playback module:

  1. Plays first 9 songs only. If you use 9 momentary switches attached to A1...A9 pins, first 9 songs are available for selection and can be played. If a song is not finished but  you press momentary switch attached to other pin (give a signal to other input) the present song will be stopped and the other song starts to play.A10 pin is not grounded.
  2. Using BY (BUSY) pin. If you connect BY pin with any of А1...А9 pins, (for example А3 pin), so when the song (any song selected to play from other pins) will finish, press any  momentary switch and you notice that the song number 3 will start to play. If you press the momentary switch when song number 3 plays, it will stop the song and the other song will start to play. Then the loop continue (another momentary switch and song number 3 plays..)till A3 pin will be disconnected from BY pin. 
  3. When A10 pin connected to ground you can control up to 31 songs (depends on how many songs recorded on MicroSD card) with three momentary switches attached to A7, A8, A9 pins (A7 pin - one song forward, A8 pin - one song back, A9 pin - pause/playback song).
  4. If you attach any of А1...А9 pins to the ground you will play the corresponding song as soon as the TRIG-MP3 voice playback module powered ON. A10 pin is not grounded.

Signals and connections of the MP3 voice playback module

VCC (5V) - power supply. Connected to +5V DC of external power supply

GND - ground pin (0V) of external power supply

A1-A9 -pins for song selection from 001 to 009. trigger inputs. For example it can be 9 momentary switches connected to these pins to swap between songs.

BY (BUSY) - busy pin.

A10 - pin used to select modes

Wiring

1 mode of operation. External power supply 5V DC needed. A10 pin is not grounded.


2 mode of operation. External power supply 5V DC needed. A10 pin is not grounded.


3 mode of operation. External power supply 5V DC needed. A10 pin is grounded.

4 mode of operation. External power supply 5V DC needed. A10 pin is not grounded. A3 pin grounded and the song number 3 will be played automatically when the module gets power supply.

Step by Step instruction

  1.  You can use Micro SD card(<=2G) or Mirco SDHC card (<=32G) with this module.
    Most SD cards work right out of the box, but it's possible you have one that was used in a computer or camera and it cannot be read by the SD library. Formatting the card will create a file system that the Arduino can read and write to. It's not desirable to format SD cards frequently, as it shortens their life span. You’ll need a SD card reader or micro SD card adapter and computer to format your card. The library supports the FAT16 and FAT32 filesystems, but use FAT16 when possible. See additional info here.
    Format the SD card as FAT16 or FAT32. Insert the SD card in your computer. Go to My Computer and right click on the SD card. 
    You can use Micro SD card with this module only.

  3. Format the SD card as FAT16 or FAT32. Insert the SD card in your computer. Go to My Computer and right click on the SD card. Select Format... 
  4. A new window pops up. Select FAT32, press Start to initialize the formatting process and follow the onscreen instructions.
  5. Copy music files to the micro SD card. You must create folder, folder name must be 01, MP3 music files should be in this folder. MP3 files names must be for example "001.mp3", "002.mp3" and so on up to "031.mp3". It does not mean that file name must be from 3 symbols only - it can be up to 255, just 3 first symbols are important. For example: "001-Michael-Jackson-The-Bad.mp3" and so on.
  6. Insert the TF card which stores your mp3 files into the TF card slot.
  7. Do wiring.
  8. Enjoy the music.
